The Holiday Transformation: Make It Meaningful

Gratitude Tree

Happy Thanksgiving, Fancy Friends!  In the spirit of giving thanks, I’m sharing something near and dear to my heart today. I’ve posted here on FLT several times about making your home decor more than just beautiful to the eye.   Making your surroundings beautiful to your heart and mind, too, promotes the best sense of well-being [...]

i love Fancy Little Things (FLT). i love that you all join us weekly to read our posts, projects, ideas & encouragement. a few months ago i felt God calling me, moving me & shaking things up. so naturally, i took a break from social media for 2 weeks! during that break i felt God’s [...]

10 Fall Pumpkins / 10 Ways

PumpkinSquare

i LOVE fall! especially in wine country, upstate NY – with the breeze coming off of the lakes, the beautiful fall leaves changing and falling, the cool weather. cups of hot cocoa & pumpkin cookies smothered in cream cheese frosting…

well, it’s in the high-80′s here in Southern California and it was Pinterest to remind me to pull out my fall decor stuff! this is what we did today…

day 29: i am the gift

water in hand

I am still an amateur, still a blasphemer, and indeed I am changed, and this week I’m realizing that I am the gift. I can be the blessing.

day 28: take action

what a month.

we have had some tough-to-read posts, encouragement posts, thought-provoking posts, change posts… a month focused on being thankful. does being thankful end when thanksgiving is over? the pie is finished. turkey soup is gone.

or do we aim to make it a part of our lives?

Day 27: Through the Eyes of a Child

P1020327

I’m one of the lucky ones. I have a “day” job that fuels my gratitude.  I teach a pre-K class at a Baptist preschool.  It’s one of the most exhausting and exhilarating things I’ve ever done.  I’m in my fifth year of teaching.  No two days are ever the same.  I strive to impart knowledge [...]

day 26: blessings this week

God never stops amazing me. He knows exactly what we need, and when we need it. Here are some of the amazing blessings I (& my family) received this week: #16: an unexpected bonus at work in a time of need #17: winning a free month of membership at the YMCA #18: Being able to [...]

day 23: isaac

I am currently 34 weeks pregnant with my last baby and first baby boy. I have two wonderful girls, one is almost 7 and the other is 3 and a half. When we decided to try again it was with the hope we would be able to add one more, healthy child to our family. Sure we were hopeful for a boy, but we would have been happy with another girl. I have enjoyed raising my girls so much. We had decided that no matter what this would be our last child, so boy or girl, we would be done. We had tried for a boy with our last girl, well obviously that didn’t happen, but I was so glad in the end that she was a girl, because she has been so wonderful ~ not to mention we already had all the girl stuff!

day 22: I am changed

11 21 11 004

I’m still an amateur {day 1}.  I’m still a blasphemer {day 8}…but I am changed. Changed by this book by Ann Voskamp.  Changed by this 30 days.  Changed by eucharisteo.  Changed by giving thanks.  Changed as my pen hits paper and my list of gifts grows each day. “I know it well after a day smattered with [...]

day 21: i have a “competition” problem.

i have this issue. i’m competitive. not just a little bit but A LOT!

{having children has brought the notch down some – but it’s still there}

a natural, built-in desire to want to win at everything.

how do i win at giving thanks? so silly, right?

{Day 20} How the List Heals

My journey of 1000 Gifts began last spring. After devouring Ann’s book during a bout with the flu, I decided my Lenten discipline would be to list my 1000 Gifts in 40 days.  Little did I know that on Ash Wednesday we would be mourning a teenage friend. From my blog post that day: *** “…remember [...]

day 19: finding thankfulness in a nursing home

I work in a nursing home. Every person I work with is a reminder of how short our lives are. It can be really depressing…seeing the those who are left there…forgotten…alone. Demented, crippled, widowed, lonely. It is so easy to think of how horrible it must be…to be one of them. To be old. To [...]
