Green Decorating {Raid the Pantry}

When I think of “green” decorating what comes to mind is reusing, recycling, rethinking what we already have.  Today I want to encourage you to open your pantry and take a look.  Did you know you have the perfect “green” decorating tools right before your eyes?

My favorite “green” decorating tip?

Do you have these?

Use them to anchor a candle in a clear glass vase or hurricane.

Or they can disguise and steady a juice glass that’s holding water and fresh flowers within a glass hurricane.

You knew they were bio-degradible and edible.  Did you have any idea that split peas were so versatile?  And could look so fresh in your spring decor?

And I’m a sucker for beautiful fruit in decor.

Like this. And this. Gorgeous in its simplicity.

And one of my go-to items from the pantry to freshen up my decor is…

COFFEE BEANS!   They are gorgeous, organic, and smell wonderful.  Add instant ambience by using them to anchor a pillar candle in a pretty glass container.

Next time you want to freshen up your decor, try raiding the pantry!

Now it’s your turn!  What’s your favorite eco-friendly way to add interest to your home decor?

Have a blessed day!

I am absolutely doing the coffee bean idea ASAP. I love the idea of the smell and the warm, chocolate brown color. Maybe on my nightstand…candle holder by night, aromatherapy to get me up and going by day.

  2. Great idea about the dried peas!…I have a hurricane also with coffee beans and a candle as I LOVE coffee…
I agree with you…great to use natural things to anchor and embellish items!…My hubby is always puzzled why I put “fake fruit” in covered containers…I tell him it is for color in shiny vessels..it’s all about the shine…I do not think they get it right away! Great post Hieidi!

  3. Heidi is a woman after my own heart! Love using what I have to decorate! I love the spit peas for spring flowers!
    Great post!

  4. I see, so much color could be added with vegis and fruit too. Love the peas…., I used some frozen peas recently to keep swelling down, haha.

  5. These are wonderful ideas! I tend to NOT decorate because I have two cats that think they own the place plus a toddler- BUT I do have an idea for a mantle redo thanks to this post!

  6. I loved these ideas, thank you! I have never thought of trying any of those things but loved them all! My faves were the fruit in glass and the coffee beans in glass with a candle. (That one could be a little expensive and I would probably only do it if I bought some new coffee beans that ended up making aweful coffee…lol…but it’s very pretty!) Thanks for the ideas!
