30 days of Giving Thanks {November}

for some, november means pumpkin pie, corn mazes, cooler weather, thanksgiving dinner, football, the Macy’s parade

but here at Fancy Little Thing’s we want november to be a month of reflection. a time to refocus our attention. a time to make lists about our thanksgiving. the Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 to “Give thanks in everything for this is God’s will…”. this verse has been in my heart and on my mind since my little boy brought it home from preschool last november.

last january a friend recommended a book called, “1000 gifts” by Ann Voskamp. i purchased it, read through some of it – spent days reflecting, picked it up, read it some more and then started my list of 1000 things that i was thankful for.

#79. celebrating my dad’s 52nd birthday with bacon

#91. children giddy with excitement as snow fell off the roof

#102. california-bound

#120. spin – oh sweet spin class

#139. sunshine peeking through windows

… when this 1000 item list is on my mind, i mutter gifts of thanksgiving all day long. under my breath. out loud to my children. i am gentler. i am more relaxed. i am being thankful for everything. the good, the not so good. i am putting a name to every gift that God has given me. ann writes on page 54, “All I can see, think is that the naming of the moments — this is truly a Holy work. This naming really does call now a gift, a gift from God. I read again: “To name a thing is to manifest the meaning and value God gave it.”

will you join us next month? we will be breaking from our regularly scheduled posting to give thanks each day. maybe you just want to stop in everyday and read one of the author’s lists. maybe you are here to seek inspiration. or comment with a thought or two. or maybe you want a chance to publicly display some items on your list.

i challenge you to think about how you want to interact with us starting november 1st and take time each day {or throughout your day} to put words to things in your life that you are thankful for.

interested in posting? we would be honored to have you. please leave a comment below or email me at: aimee@FancyLittleThings.com.

thank you for joining us on our blogging journey. we have been enjoying our first 6 months and excited to see how this next month impacts us as authors and all of you!
