Blah to Beachy Pillar Candles

Thanks, Aimee and Fancy friends, for having me at Fancy Little Things today!  The heat of August always makes me long for the shore, so I’m delighted to share a super simple project that will help you channel sand and surf in your home: beachy pillar candles!

Start with simple pillar candles, small to medium-sized shells (ours are collected from beach trips, but you can purchase them at hobby stores, too), a roll of rope or twine, masking tape, and a hot glue gun.

Start by taping one end of the rope to the pillar candle about half way down.  Then wrap the rope around the candle, two times for shorter candles, three or more times for taller candles.  I usually wrap it until I like the look and then cut the rope.

Use hot glue to secure the other end of your rope to the row of rope above and to the pillar.  I add a little extra to clean up any frayed ends.

Choose a shell that will cover the masking tape and beginning of your rope and hot glue it into place.

Here I’ve done a tall pillar and a shorter pillar.

And because I’m a Southern girl that loves decorating with her silver, I decided to fill a silver candy dish with sand and nestle the pillars inside.  Add a few small shells around the base of the candle for extra interest.

And the finished product…

Easy peasy beach chic!  Note: never leave candles burning unattended!

I invite you to stop by my decor blog Show Some Decor for more inspiring ideas for your home. I love to share ideas for making your house a home, what inspires me, recipes and entertaining tips, with some DIY projects thrown in, too.  I’d love to see you there!
