Father’s Day Gifts {Easy-Peasy Paper Project}

Hello sweet friends – welcome to my very first Father’s Day Edition on FancyLittleThings.com! I have put together 2 very simple projects that will make your dad or husband smile when they see what you’ve made them {versus what you can buy them!}.

Project #1: Cupcake Bunting

{This darling lil cupcake made my big Marine SMILE from ear to ear}

List of Materials:

  • Cupcake {homemade or store bought – I made mine using a Texas size cupcake pan!}
  • Candy sticks, skewers or thin dowels
  • String {I made Baker’s Twine using Sweet C’s tutorial}
  • Paper
  • Scissors & Tape

Step 1: Using an index card or cardstock, cut out a template for your flags about 1/2 inch wide and about 3/4 inch long — you can round them, cut them into a triangle flag or any other design. Because I used dark paper for my flags, I placed a white circle sticker in the middle of this template to make sure the circle sticker would fit on the finished flag….

Step 2: Place the template onto the patterned paper and start cutting away…

Step 3: Fold the flags in half & place sticker, if desired…

Step 4: Using letter stickers, place them on the flag — I  added an owl to match the card we made!

Step 5: Tie the string to your candy sticks {Cut a piece about 8 inches long – you can trim the excess when you’re done} and then arrange the flags in order. Place some tape inside the flag & close them up!

Step 6: Stick the candy sticks into the cupcake and arrange flags as needed. Add a matching card!

Here’s the one I made for my dad this past weekend – my 2 kids call him “Papa”!

{This little project was inspired by Courtney at Sweet C’s Designs. You can view her project by going here and seeing the work of her amazing little Cricut machine to produce a similar look. Be sure to stop by her Etsy shop too – love it!!}

Project # 2: Little Hands on Canvas

These are the sweet little hand prints of Jack {almost 4} & Abby {almost 2} that were given to my husband on his 30th birthday last year —- and if I hadn’t already made these for him – I would make them for Father’s Day! So, here’s how you make them…

List of Materials:

  • Small artists canvas {I purchased mine at our local Big Lots for $1/each}
  • Black ink pad
  • Kids hands… yes, that’s it!!

Directions: Very carefully ink up one of your children’s hands and place on the canvas while pressing firmly to transfer as much ink as possible. Lift their hand of carefully as to not smudge them. Allow to dry for 1-2 days to allow the ink to set. Package or hang for Father’s Day.

Be sure to write the date on the back so you will always remember how old the kids were when these were made!

I hope you enjoyed these little projects & perhaps will make your own for your daddy & husband this next week! They will be sure to enjoy the cupcake & a little memento of their children’s hands!

Thanks for stopping by — & come back next Monday for either a Silhouette Project OR some fun packaging ideas!!

Stay awhile...
